The University of Maryland jumped to No. 20 in Sierra magazine's fifth annual ranking of the nation's top 100 "Coolest Schools." Maryland climbed 47 places from its 2009 spot on this list of universities and colleges with the greatest commitment to sustainability and learning about it outside the classroom.
The ranking is the latest in a fast-growing list of green recognitions for the University of Maryland. In June, Maryland received a Second Nature Climate Leadership Award from the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment and a Leadership Award from the Maryland Green Registry. The university is also among 18 colleges and universities to make the Princeton Review's Green College Honor Roll for 2011.
